Passchendaele, Belgium - The Start Line Near Tyne Cot
This is the approximate start line of the Australian attack of 12 October 1917 in the Battle of Passchendaele. The Australians were meant to progress in a line in a direction approximately across the front of the car in their attempt to capture Passchendaele Village. However they tended to follow the ridgeline in the direction of the road.
This was a dry period, imagine what the mud must have been like when it was wet. The walls of Tyne Cot cemetery can be seen through the trees.
