Verdun France - Fort de Douaumont The Entrance
This was the rather unimposing entrance to the most important fort of Verdun's defences. It was built into the top of the tallest hill in the area, and layered with earth and reinforced concrete so that it was impervious to shell fire. The entrance leads to a small room selling souvenirs and for 3 Euros you can go through a small steel door into the bowels of the fort. |
