Pillbox on Broodseinde Ridge, Belgium
Michel Taillien showed me an intact pillbox covered in vegetation hidden behind his daughter's shed. This was possibly set up as a machine gun post with a commanding view of the slope below it. Like other pillboxes, it was made of rough steel reinforced concrete about 60cm thick all around. The inside was small and cramped and appeared to have a (blocked) connection to other buried fortifications. It seems that the ridge lines are covered in deep buried bunkers, but it is not possible to see them as they are now underneath ploughed fields, farms and houses.
